'Memories in pattern and colour'

Tag Archives: retro

This is the second time me and my sister have popped along to this wonderful event. This time we even took our lovely mum, so its was a fantastic girly day out for us! We even found time for tea and *the most amazing* cake in a pop up vintage cafe. Tea and cake are always better when served on vintage mismatched crockery, don’t you think?!  Unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures, so all pictures are courtesy of vintagebrighton.com but check all the vintageness that was on offer!

My bargain purchases of the day were a £1 costume ring, made off brass with glass diamontes, and a 1960’s shift dress which is in pristine condition and made from the most amazing marbled vibrant fabric.  I cant wait for the weather to improve so i can wear it this summer! Unfortunately it is snowing here today, so it may have to make itself comfy in my wardrobe for many weeks to come!

December is creeping up on us pretty quick, and pretty soon it will be Crimbo, which means one thing. Money is tight!

Sooooo, us ladies always like a hand  bag or two and so this Wednesday I am finding vintage bags for under £15! They could be a sneaky cheap pre Christmas treat for you, or a bargain gift for a loved one.

So here are my top picks, I love them all, but the first and the last are my favourites! I love them!

I found this lovely little children’s book today and just wanted to share the gorgeous 1920’s illustrations by Hilda.T.Miller within. The book is so quaint and although I have not had time to read it, it seems to be a sort of bug’s life-esque story, with each garden bug and butterfly having its own cute rhyming ditty . It really was a great find, and I’m 100% sure its a first edition too which makes it a tiny bit lovelier don’t you think?

For this weeks Wednesday wishes I have picked a few delightful pieces from a Etsy shop called DearGolden. They have a wide choice of stock, and their pieces are just glorious so I will share my favourites!

vintage adverts mental health dew

So today is World Mental Health Day, and with the subject mental health being close to my heart I thought I would spread the awareness of this day! I thought I would share this scan from a small book I found at my Grandad’s when he passed away a few years ago. Although the book is battered I could not resist keeping the torn pages as they really are a snippet of the past. Unfortunately the front pages are not present so no date is visible. The reason I have shared this today is for the advert titled:  Inferiority Complex. An interesting insight into the ‘Instant cure’ advertisements of the time!

vintage wrapped parcel post present retro style

Today i recieved a parcel in the post and it was actually wrpaped in brown paper and tied with string. I thought this only happned in old books and films! It was lovely and i just wish every parcel was as old fashioned as this 😀
